The Fox and the Hound (1981)

Original Cinema Quad Poster - Movie Film Posters“Darlin, forever is a long, long time, and time has a way of changing things. ” – Big Mama

Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (video and cable in the 80’s and 9 Jul 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A young fox and a hound meet and quickly become friends not knowing that they should really be enemies.

My Take on it – Disney once again found great source material to tell a tale of two friends whose species are mortal enemies.

As a kid I always loved Todd and Copper, but as an adult I enjoyed the message more than the main characters. The supporting characters are fun to watch tho.

Disney once again was able to ‘soften’ the very violent and depressing source material and give us a dual layered story fit for kids and adults alike.

Unfortunately, unlike most Disney movies, the songs are not memorable at all.

Bottom Line – Great Disney story. Fun characters with a message about friendship. Songs are somewhat mediocre tho. Recommended

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. Aww I love this one! So sad, but so good. I think I’d have to give it an Oscar rating, my friend. 🙂 The music isn’t the best, perhaps, but I think the story and the message make it great. Good review!

    • nope, it’s close to being Oscar worthy, but there is something lacking here and this was probably the last good Disney movie until The Little Mermaid 8 years later (thats a very long stretch)

  3. I have not seen this once since I was a kid and, thanks to your review, I think it’s time to see it again.

On an unrelated topic, I love the idea of your Hitchcock blogathon. Sadly, I will not be able to participate as much as I would love to! But I’m going to try to read as many entries as I can. It’s a fabulous idea. Will you be making this an annual event?
