“I have all the characteristics of a human being: blood, flesh, skin, hair; but not a single, clear, identifiable emotion, except for greed and disgust. Something horrible is happening inside of me and I don’t know why. My nightly bloodlust has overflown into my days. I feel lethal, on the verge of frenzy. I think my mask of sanity is about to slip.” – Patrick Bateman

Brief Synopsis – A yuppie in the mid 80’s becomes a serial killer as a way to climb the social scale.
My Take on it – Christian Bale has always been an extraordinary actor and this movie is further proof of that.
The problem with this movie tho is that the plot and script are so full of holes that the movie seems choppy at certain points. The plot gets so ambiguous towards the end that it becomes very incoherent.
It takes place during the mid 80’s and deals primarily with the business, personal and social drive of yuppies that caused them to constantly try to outmaneuver one another in every way possible.
One of the things that I liked about this movie was how it touched upon the theme of identity\lack of identity.
Bottom Line – Not the most coherent script and plot that leaves the viewer scratching their heads as to the ambiguity of it all. Liked the way this movie presented the idea of identity / lack of identity. Bale is amazing as usual.
Rating – BAFTA Worthy
