Spider-Man 3 (2007)

spiderman 3 “It’s me, Peter Parker. Your friendly neighborhood – you know. I’ve come a long way since I was the boy bit by a spider. Back then nothing seemed to go right for me. Now people really like me. The city is safe and sound. Guess I had a little something to do with that. My uncle Ben would be proud. I still go to school. Top of my class. And I’m in love. With the girl of my dreams.  – Peter Parker

Number of Times Seen – 3- 5 times (3 May 2007, DVD and 24 Jul 2014)

Brief Synopsis – The final chapter in the Spider-man trilogy brings the hero face to face with two new villains – Sandman and Venom.

My Take on it – The first two movies in this series were both spectacular and this one failed because it has too many great ideas.

The writers thought of numerous subplots that all are great on their own but they couldn’t make all of the work well together in a normal 2+ hour running time.

Each of the subplots need more time to be properly developed on screen and unfortunately the way it was done left each of them feeling rushed and incomplete.

I heard that originally the idea was to split it into two movies and its extremely unfortunate that it wasn’t done. If they had done so, they could possibly have had two hit movies instead of one potentially great movie that seemed rushed.

Bottom Line – Weakest of the original trilogy. Problem is that they have too much going on and even in a 2+ hour running time it seems rushed without giving enough exposure to each subplot. It’s too bad that they dropped the idea of splitting this into two separate movies. Recommended!

Rating – Globe Worthy

  2. I remember I was super excited to see this when it first came out. Then I watched it and was extremely let down. This movie tried to do way too much. I’m not sure how true this is, but I heard that Sony told Raimi he had to have Venom in the movie otherwise he couldn’t make it. If Venom had been in Spider-man 4 and this one just dealt with Sandman, it would have been so much better. Good review, Rob.

  3. I also just remember Tobey Parker’s walk-on-the-wild-scene being just so incredibly poorly done and just. . .awkward. I did like this movie, more than most anyway, but it’s definitely definitely the weakest link, for a number of reasons.

    Good review man!

  4. Oh man. I…hate this movie. With a passion. Lol. Everything that the first two films built, this one effectively destroyed for me. Way too much going on, weak villains, Peter becomes a huge a-hole…such a disappointment. Even though I do think it was too soon, the Garfield reboot was kind of nice just because it helped wash the taste of this one out of my mouth…hahaha. Good review, Rob! Glad you like this better than I do.
