“I had a professor once who liked to tell his students that there were only 10 different plots in all of fiction. Well, I’m here to tell you he was wrong. There is only one: “Who am I?” ” – Miss Ritter
Number of Times Seen – 2 (21 Oct 2012 and 24 Jul 2014)
Brief Synopsis – In this modern reboot of Spiderman, young Peter Parker gets bitten by a radioactive spider and chooses to fight crime in NYC.
My Take on it – I’m not 100% sure why it was felt that this series was in need of a complete reboot so soon after the previous trilogy was made, but in the wake of the reemergence of superhero movies, I guess it kinda makes sense.
The idea to keep Parker in high school was a decision apparently made to make the character more juvenile, haughty and carefree. In some scenes it works and in others it doesn’t.
Regardless, Andrew Garfield fit the part to a tee, but still isn’t as good as Tobey Maguire IMHO.
Very cool special effects that rely less on cgi and more on alternate FX methods.
Personally, I think the origin story is much better in the original trilogy than here.
Still a very fun superhero movie.
Bottom Line – Very good reboot, but Andrew Garfield seems too juvenile as Parker. Special effects are done superbly, but the story isn’t as strong as the origin story of the original trilogy. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

Again, I agree. As a standalone flick, this is okay. But it’s not as good as the recently concluded trilogy and it is totally unnecessary.

Yeah the original origin story is better, that’s for sure. But I just love Garfield in this role. I feel like he has the sense of humor and confidence that Peter Parker is supposed to have, while Maguire often just fell flat when he wasn’t in costume (at least for me). This film could be better, but I enjoy it. Another nice Spidey review, my friend!

Maybe its the age thing. 😀 you young uns seem to connect better to Garfield

Well, the fact that he’s much more handsome than Maguire also doesn’t hurt. 😉
