License to Drive (1988)

license to drive“I am so dead they’re going to have to bury me twice.” – Les

Number of Times Seen – 5-10 times (Theater in ’88, numerous times on cable and 27 Jul 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A teenager plans a wild night out with friends after he is to take his driving test.

My Take on it – I haven’t seen this movie in years, but Brad at Hard Ticket reminded me how much I loved it, so I decided to give it a rewatch.

I was 14 when I first saw this in ’88 and thought it was hilarious and watched it subsequently on cable lots of times.

It was such a great crazy 80’s teen movie and rewatching it brought back lots of amazing memories of my youth and of this movie.

Unfortunately, it also brought back memories of the tragedy known as Corey Haim who was so loved as an actor but was so troubled in his personal life. He was in and out of rehab an astonishing 15 times in 25 years or so. His body was so worn down that he died of pneumonia at the young age of 38.

Bottom Line – Hilarious movie that I enjoyed ever more as a teenager. Sad thinking about what happened to Corey Haim who had a chance ay greatness but was lost to drugs. Recommended!

Rating – Globe Worthy

  2. Was not aware of Haim passing, R.I.P, Great film, the dialogue between Corey and his Dad is hilarious, very well written.watched it a couple of years ago, it does have that 80’s feel good thing going on but its still very watchable and enjoyable today.
