“I am your number one fan. There is nothing to worry about. You are going to be just fine. I am your number one fan. ” – Annie Wilkes
Number of Times Seen – Between 5-10 times (Cable, DVD and 27 Jul 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A famous writer gets injured in a car accident during a blizzard and is rescued by his ‘#1 fan’
My Take on it – I have always enjoyed Stephen King novels because of his ability to create characters with depth and place them in interesting and thrilling predicaments.
Im not the biggest fan of his supernatural stuff but I love his stories that take place in the real world.
Rob Reiner previously directed another king adaptation 6 years earlier that was a major success. Stand by Me (1986) is one of my favorite movies and Reiner knows how to handle King’s material onscreen.
Kathy Bates and James Caan are both amazing in a movie where they are virtually alone enabling them to showcase their talent.
For her role as a crazed fan, Bates both won a Best Actress Oscar and stardom that continues to follow her until this very day
Bottom Line – Excellent King adaptation. Bates and Caan are both amazing. Bates won an Oscar for her role. Highly recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy
