The Calling (2014)

calling “My mom gives me Air Miles every year for Christmas Ive never used them.” – Ben Wingate

Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 Aug 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A veteran police detective in a rural town must deal with a suspected serial killer who has started murdering local residents.

My Take on it – I am a big fan of thrillers but this one heavily bordered on the occult which isn’t my forte at all.

I had hoped that with such a strong cast the movie would be better but I found it to drag on too much.

Susan Sarandon leads a group of very good actors here including Donald Sutherland, Gil Bellows and Topher Grace.

Perhaps my opinion is skewed by the fact that I had thought that I’d be watching a straight police thriller but was instead treated to a pseudo occult movie. I wonder if fans of this past season of True Detective would enjoy it more than I did.

Bottom Line – Not an enjoyable experience at all. Expected something better with Sarandon, Grace, Bellows and Sutherland. Too occultish for me. Skip it!

Rating – Razzie Worthy
