The Nut Job (2014)

the-nut-job-poster-1“Buddy, we found it! The lost city of Nutlantis! ” – Surly

Number of Times Seen – 1  (6 Aug 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A group of park animals seeking food for the winter stumble upon gangsters planning a bank heist.

My Take on it – It’s rare that I let my kids over rule my first choice when we go to the theater.

This time they chose this movie instead of How to Train your Dragon 2 (2014).

I’m a big fan of animated films but I prefer the type that Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks are known for; animation that is fun for both kids and adults alike.

The story here is extremely silly. There are a few funny scenes but overall I was bored through most of this movie.

The one point that I enjoyed was the amazing way thay they animated all of the creatures. The animators must have spent hours studying real animals in order to get their movements.

Thankfully, my kids enjoyed this more than I did so I can’t write this off as a totally lost cause.

Bottom Line – Not the best animated storyline, but the animal animation is done extremely well.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  1. I am a big fan of animated films, because I find the story lines more original than many live action movies. However, like you, I prefer works by Disney or Dreamworks or Pixar because they’re usually smart. I think I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than watch this one. However, if your kids enjoyed it, then it’s worth it.
