Welcome to New York (2014)

 welcome-to-new-york-poster“I don’t have feeling” – Devereaux

Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Aug 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A very successful French businessman being groomed for greater things gets himself into trouble when his urges steer him in the wrong direction while on a visit to New York.

My Take on it – Gerard Depardieu has always been known as being a great actor but in this film he reveals himself to the audience both mentally and unfortunately very physically.

Seeing an actor like him who is now quite obese completely nude numerous times is not an easy site to take in.

The plot shows moments of greatness but it fails to raise the whole movie with it leaving the viewer feel as empty as the characters themselves must feel during their lengthy binges of group sex with the revolving door prostitutes.

I had so much trouble identifying with any of the characters and hoped upon hope that we would be shown something that would elevate this movie, but alas it just doesn’t happen.

Too many scenes are choppy and none of the character get enough development for us to care or sympathize with them.

This was not easy to watch but at the same time hard to look away while expecting something better to happen.

Bottom Line – Very difficult movie to watch that just doesn’t deliver like it should. It’s one of those films that are hard to watch but also hard to turn away from because you expect something great to happen which unfortunately doesn’t.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
