“[voice-over] You know when you have a dream and you’re half-awake, but still in the fringe of your brain, and when you open your eyes you’re so damn glad it was a dream?[gun falls out of Wesley’s pants][voice-over] This was nothing like that.” – Wesley
Number of Times Seen – 2 (19 Oct 2008 and 26 Aug 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A young pencil pusher finds out that he is the son of a famed assasin and begins training with a secret organization to avenge his father’s death.
My Take on it – This movie has a very interesting premise but the premise of the comic book that this is based on is still much better and it’s unfortunate that so much was changed.
I believe that James McAvoy was slightly miscast here as the lead because as good an actor as he is and as perfect as he is for the pencil pusher role from the beginning, he doesnt fit the profile of a deadly assassin.
The training scenes are cool and ultimately the action scenes are amazing because of the perfect blend of special effects and regular shots that show the capabilities that skillfull use of FX can add to movies.
Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman both give this movie a quality feel because they are actors we can believe in.
Thd plot is good and although it can get complex in certain scenes it does the job of entertaining us and that’s ultimately what we all seek in a movie.
This isnt really a movie I would lean towards watching too often, but I can see myself watching this again in 5-10 years when certain nuances of the storyline will have (at least slightly) faded from memory.
Thrte are better films adapted from comics, but this one is still enjoyable enough to watch and cut yourself off from reality for slightly less than 2 hours
Bottom Line – Fun film, but not the greatest superhero/assasin movie that is sorta based on a comic. Enjoyable but not something I’d rewatch too many times. Amazing special effects. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

Good review, Rob! Yeah, I didn’t really get all the hype with this one, but it’s a kind of fun film. I will say that I think James McAvoy is great in it. I’m with you though–not one I’d rewatch a lot.
