Movies From the Hat: The Life of Brian (1979)

lifeofbrian“He’s not the Messiah. He’s a very naughty boy! Now, piss off! ” – Brian’s Mother

Number of Times Seen – 3-4 times (cable in the 80’s and 15 Sep 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A spoof of the story of Jesus as told from the perspective of his neighbor Brian.

My Take on it – I’m not the biggest fan of Monty Python but I have always been able to take it in small doses.

I think the novelty is lost when it’s a feature length film as opposed to just snippets.  I believe that the trick for me to enjoy Monty Python in the future is to watch the movies scene by scene to help me appreciate the humor more.

There is no doubt that the members of Monty Python are geniuses and know how to make people laugh at things that probably shouldn’t be funny.

This movie was so controversial when it came out and there are apparently places where it’s still banned as blasphemy.  One of those places only lifted the ban when one of this movie’s cast members was elected mayor a few years ago. 🙂

This movie has many classic Monty Python lines and like I said, in small doses, it’s hilarious, just too much all at once.

Bottom Line – Has some funny scenes, but ultimately I’m not the biggest fan of this type of humor eventhough I appreciate the way it was done. Recommended!

Rating – Globe Worthy
