Skyfall (2012)

James-Bond-Skyfall“Today I’ve repeatedly heard how irrelevant my department has become. “Why do we need agents, the Double-0 section? Isn’t it all antiquated?” Well, I suppose I see a different world than you do, and the truth is that what I see frightens me. I’m frightened because our enemies are no longer known to us. They do not exist on a map. They’re not nations, they’re individuals. And look around you. Who do you fear? Can you see a face, a uniform, a flag? No! Our world is not more transparent now, it’s more opaque! It’s in the shadows. That’s where we must do battle. So before you declare us irrelevant, ask yourselves, how safe do you feel? Just one more thing to say, my late husband was a great lover of poetry, and… I suppose some of it sunk in, despite my best intentions. And here today, I remember this, I believe, from Tennyson: “We are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are. One equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will. To strive, to seek, to find, AND NOT TO YIELD.”  – M.

Number of Times Seen – 2 (31 Dec 2012 and 21 Sep 2014)

Brief Synopsis – James Bond is sent on a new mission to stop a list containing the names of deep cover agents from being exposed to the world.

My Take on it – By keeping up with the times, the James Bond adventures with Daniel Craig as the title role have done an excellent job transforming the series from a campy spy thriller to a real action packed drama filled with serious tones.

This movie continues in that new tradition by giving us for the first time ever, a story deeper and more personal for the main characters than ever before.

It explores the idea of how one’s past can effect the present no matter who you are or what you did.

This movie is far from perfect tho and in its attemot to create a more serious drama it loses a lot of its appeal as an action movie and still can’t match the high quality of Casino Royale (2006)

Bottom Line – Great addition to the Bond franchise which treats the characters on a deeper and more personal level. Does a very good job in continuing the modern relevance of the series by having Bond as an action hero with a serious tone. Recommended!

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. Oh I don’t know man, I think I fell in love with this one as much as Casino Royale! Tho I will agree there is def something more special and successful with the way CR was handled. Skyfall, if anything, could be blamed for presenting ‘more of the same.’

Interesting to see how Bond 24 is gonna be.

  2. I’m so glad you decided to give the Craig Bond a try, Rob! Though Casino Royale is probably my favorite, Skyfall is a very, very close second. Great films, both of them! Quantum of Solace, not so much…but whatever. Lol. Excellent job!
