Brief Synopsis – The continuation of the saga of the world of Panem where every year each district must choose two young adults to enter a fight to the death against those chosen by the other 11 districts where only one may survive.
My Take on it – I enjoyed this movie slightly more than the first one, but after having read both novels, I have become somewhat disillusioned by what these adaptations have to offer.
As is the case with many movies adapted from novels, much is lost in the transition to the screen.
Some important explanations and plotlines are totally left out and although they aren’t necessarily needed in the film, they help enhance the story and it’s disheartening that they don’t appear.
The action and the creation of the world of Panem is done exceptionally well despite the given constraints of adaptation.
Bottom Line – As with the first movie, this just isn’t as great as the book because of the lost parts due to it having to be adaptable and fit into a tight 2 and a half hours. Once again, the action and story are great, but only when it isn’t compared to the novels. Recommended!

I thought this was a fantastic adaption, big fan of the movie. I actually watched it again last weekend. Looking forward to Mockingjay in November!

It was pretty good, but I felt lots of stuff were left on the cutting room floor to make this amazing. Im debating whether yo read Mockingjay now or wait a year until after ive seen both movies. 😦

I think Mockingjay is going to have a lot of filler stuff because they are splitting it into two films, which I find to be unnecessary. 😦 Oh well, I am hoping for the best, because I think they have done really well so far!

Nope, not thinking about more faithful. The book is good but very dwindling. What with doing two films at just over two hours each, I am afraid of excessive action sequences, Katniss moping some more, etc. 😦 I hope that is not the case, or the bits that they add from the book don’t get drawn out for a century.
I’m going to read Mockingjay again just before the film so I can see how they compare (I usually do that with the books and films).

Yea, I guess I should read it first since I can. Just gotta finish another Jack Reacher novel that im in the middle of and then I’ll get to it

I thought this was pretty fantastic. As far as mainstream films go, this was one of my favourites from last year, and I thought a big step up in quality from the first film. Nice review sir.

I watched the first film having not read the first book and then watched the this one having read the second book, and I actually preferred this one. Irrespective of read/not read, I just think this is a better film. (A very, very good one). Shame it didn’t quite work as well for you Rob, great work!

I’m glad that you like this one, Rob, but what a shame you don’t like it a smidge more! This is actually one of my very favorite book adaptations. I was very impressed when I saw it the first time, and I’ve seen it a few times since then. Still love it. Here’s hoping Mockingjay lives up! In fact, here’s hoping that Mockingjay is better than the book…
