Brief Synopsis – A rancher in debt volunteers to deliver an outlaw to prison in return for a fee. Things get tricky when the outlaw’s gang try to interfere.
My Take on it – I have always enjoyed Glenn Ford’s movie and when I heard that he played an outlaw here, I was quite excited to see it.
He proved to me that with charisma like his, it doesn’t matter what side of the law you are on because the viewers will be rooting for you no matter what.
The problem in this movie is that the other lead actor, Van Helfin also had strong charisma in his characters that he always played.
Having them pitted against each other makes this an excellent psychological western because the viewer doesn’t know who to root for because both sides seem equally worthy of ‘winning’
This is based on a short story by Elmore Leonard and is a lean 90 minutes, it manages to keep the suspense moving throughout.
Bottom Line – Great psycholigical western from the waning days of the genre. Helfin and Ford are great as the two men who must face off boyh physically and emotionally during their ‘trip’. Excellent adaptation of an Elmore Leonard short story. Highly recommended!
