The idea behind this new feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of BioPics…
Number of Times Seen – 2 (14 Mar 2001 and 23 Oct 2014)
Brief Synopsis – A down on her luck single mother gets a job at a law firm and helps create one of the largest class action suits in US history. Based on a true story.
I’ve never been the biggest fan of Julia Roberts, but due to her popularity at tge time, she got many choice roles.
This particular role is definitely not something I would have expected her to take but I guess it’s a big challenge to take on a role completely different from what you usually do.
She has had much better roles before and afterwards, but I can understand why the Academy would see fit to giving her an Oscar for this polar opposite role.
The story is very inspirational and I liked the message that anyone can make a difference if they put their mind and work to it.
Bottom Line – Inspirational movie that shows that anyone can exert themselves and make a difference in the world. IMHO, not Roberts’ best performance, but she did prove that she can play these kind of roles too. Recommended!
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Nope, once again I found this movie to be enjoyable, but not enough to add it to my all time favorites of this genre,
Rating – Globe Worthy
