21 Jump Street (2012)

21-jump-street-poster2“[referring to a wall in his parents’ house displaying many photos of him as a youth] It looks like I died in a car crash and you never got over me. ” – Schmidt

Number of Times Seen – 2 (11 Jun 2012 and 4 Nov 2014)

Brief Synopsis – Two young looking police officers are sent to an undercover police unit that infiltrates high schools to stop crime.

My Take on it – I remember as a teenager in the 80’s being glued to my tv screen every Sunday night to watch a novel cop show where all the cops were teenage actors pretending to be adults who go undercover in high schools to stop criminal activities.

Johnny Depp starred as the main character Tom Hanson.

This remake is more of a comedy than drama like the original TV show and it actually works extremely well.

The main reason being that it knows that there is no need to take itself seriously so even parodying itself over and over works.

Another reason that this works is due to the amazing chemistry between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

Nice ‘tips of the hat’ to the original TV show. Unfortunately, they made me miss the old Jump Street gang. 😉

Bottom Line – Very fun movie that knows not to take itself seriously. Tatum and Hill have great chemistry together. Makes me very nostalgic for the tv show from my youth. Recommended!

Rating – Globe Worthy
