How to Train Your Dragon (2010)

How_to_Train_Your_Dragon_by_momarkey“My name’s Hiccup. Great name, I know. But, it’s not the worst. Parents believe a hideous name will frighten off gnomes and trolls. Like our charming Viking demeanor wouldn’t do that. ” – Hiccup

Number of Times Seen – 2 (27 Oct 2010 and 7 Nov 2014)

Brief Synopsis – The son of a Viking chief known for causing mischief finds and befriends a powerful dragon that he wounded eventhough no one believes him.

My Take on it – This is such a fun movie where you can see that the writers and animators had a great time creating these characters and the world they live in.

The first time I saw this was by myself, but this time I saw it with my kids and I enjoyed it even more because I was able to share the experience together with them.

I always find it funny watching movies with them because there are always things that they laugh at that I don’t and vice versa. None of them are old enough yet to appreciate movies on my level but that’s one of the things that always amazes me about kids movies; that they are able to create stories that can entertain all ages at once without either side being disappointed in the least.

The animation is wonderfully done and my favorite scenes were the ones in flight because the skylines and water looked so real.

The characters are all very interesting and I can’t wait to see the again in the sequel when the kids and I find time to watch it.

Bottom Line – Amazing animated shots especially the flight scenes. Colorful diverse characters and a good message make this a very fun watch. Recommended!

Rating – Oscar Worthy

  1. Quite possibly my favorite animated film. Definitely in the top five. Great review, Rob! Glad you enjoy this one, too! I think you guys will love the sequel (even though it’s not quite as good as the first, in my opinion).
