The Captive (2014)

captive“What was it like to spend the night of your 14th birthday in a van?” – Mika

Number of Times Seen – 1  (10 Nov 2014)

Brief Synopsis – Eight years after a young girl goes missing her father and the police start to get indications that maybe she is still alive.

My Take on it – I didnt know anything about this movie before watching it and thats usually the way I like it.

The problem with this movie is the fact that the premise is very intriguing, but it just isn’t written well enough so that the viewer can successfully understand what is going on.

Because it takes place during two different time periods, its jumping back and forth needs to somehow be ‘tagged’, but since it isn’t, it can confuse the viewer as to what is happening when.

There are too many plot points that are brought up and discarded and it just felt too choppy. Perhaps important parts were left on yhe cutting room floor that would have made this more coherent.

Bottom Line – Very interesting premise that just doesn’t justify itself onscreen. Too many scenes have time warps that aren’t properly explained that leaves the viewer disoriented as to what is happening when.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy

  1. Looks like a relatively interesting premise, though it sounds like it wasn’t pulled off properly. I like Ryan Reynolds, might look into it if just to see him in something again.
