For today’s 4th and final review of Dr. No, here’s my own personal opinion of it!
Number of Times Seen – 2 or 3 times (cable in the 80’s-90’s and 1 Dec 2014)
Brief Synopsis – British secret agent James Bond is sent to the Bahamas to investigate when another government agent mysteriously disappears.
My Take on it – When this movie was made 52 years ago, no one ever thought that it would launch an onscreen character who has become the longest running one in film history.
This movie gives us a great introduction to the character we all love and know as Bond, James Bond despite it lacking key Bond film elements that we are use to.
The story happens to be quite timely for 1962 and the US space race and it was interesting to hear all the space flight chatter.
I enjoyed this movie but felt that had they developed the plot more and created a stronger villain than Dr. No, it had the potential of being much better.
Dr. No only appears for about 15 minutes and is pretty laughable as a high ranking criminal member of SPECTRE.
Bond is sauve as ever and this movie introduced us to one of the most famous Bond girls, Honey Rider, in true Bond fashion as she emerges from the sea.
Bottom Line – A worthy and enjoyable beginning for Bond, but the plot and villain could have been better developed. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy
