Here I am with today’s fourth and final review of From Russia With Love (1963).
Number of Times Seen – 2 or 3 times (cable in the 80’s and 90’s and 2 Dec 2014)
Brief Synopsis – After Bond successfully foiled their plans in the previous movie, SPECTRE targets James Bond by using a beautiful Russian agent to lower his guard and get rid of him.
My Take on it – Bond is back for more and must deal with a plot to kill him by using his one supposed weakness; a beautiful woman.
This movie was better than the previous one due to the fact that the enemies weren’t just comic book characters, but actively fought against him.
The plot works well and we start to see the Bond we expect; one with gadgets and panache even when death is on the line.
I liked how SPECTRE used the cold war between Russia and the West to further the plot along and act as a third party spoiler in the standoff.
Connery seems more comfortable in the role and it is clear by the say he presents the character of Bond.
Bottom Line – Thrilling Bond adventure that does everything it is meant to do. Effectively uses the Cold War to further SPECTRE’s global domination plan. Great gadgets. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy
