Here’s today’s second and final review of Goldfinger.
Once again, thanks to Luke for his earlier review today.
Number of Times Seen – 2 or 3 times (cable in the 80’s and 90’s and 2 Dec 2014)
Brief Synopsis – Bond id sent on a mission to stop a greedy millionaire eccentric obsessed with gold.
My Take on it – I can’t actually explain why but Auric Goldfinger is one of my favorite bond villains of all time.
He in some ways looks completely harmless, but he is willing to do so much to win at everything he does to make a bigger name for himself and prove his superiority.
Unlike the previous two bond villains, he doesn’t work for SPECTRE, but is only in it for himself, which makes him an even more dangerous foe. (There is speculation that he wears a SPECTRE ring, so perhaps that’s not even true.)
This movie has all the elements that make up a great 007 flick; great villain, great henchman, excellent plot, amazing title song and above all else crazy gadgets and gizmos including a sports car perfectly suited for a super spy.
It also has the most iconic Bond girl name – Pussy Galore. Ian Fleming was known for his double entendre and suggestively named female characters, but this one almost didn’t make it through the censors of the time.
All in all, one of the best Bond movies IMHO.
Bottom Line – IMHO, one of the best Bond movies because it brings together all of the elements of what we expect from a Bond movie and doesn’t stray from that much. Highly recommended!
Rating – Oscar Worthy
