Strange Days (1995)

Strangedays“Memories are meant to fade. They’re designed that way for a reason. ” – Mace

Number of Times Seen – 2  (Video in 1996 and 4 Dec 2014)

Brief Synopsis – On the day before the Millennium, a former cop turned hustler must try and solve the mysterious death of a civil rights activist which might involve a police conspiracy before riots break out on New Years Eve.

My Take on it – I remember when this came out just a few years before The Millennium and there was wide speculation as to how the world would react the Y2K.

Would it be chaos or would the world just keep chugging along as usual?

James Cameron decided to once again write a script with a very dark and bleak future despite it only being 5 years away.

The technology based elements of the plot are interesting, but this movie fails to really bring new features to the thriller genre leaving the plot with lots of holes and confusion. This is unfortunate due to the potential of the themes used here.

Bottom Line – Has an interesting idea, but just doesn’t plan out as well onscreen. Very dark and bleak future ala Cameron, that is just a mediocre thriller.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
