Still Alice (2014)

still alice“My yesterdays are disappearing, and my tomorrows are uncertain, so what do I live for? I live for each day.” – Alice

Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Dec 2014)

Brief Synopsis – A 50 year old successful professor finds out she has early onset alzheimers and must figure out how to continue to live her life in a fulfilling way despite her fast deterioration.

My Take on it – I have always liked Julianne Moore as an actress and I think she finally found the role that she will always be remembered for.

This isnt an easy movie to watch because it is so well made.

I’ve never read the book this is based on, but if it’s close to how this movie is, then it must also be great.

This movie takes us thru the progression of this terrible disease and the way Moore portrays the main character feels so real.

The supporting cast is also great with Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart and Kate Bosworth playing Moore’s family members.

This role is currently keeping Moore ahead of the pack as the frontrunner for the Best Actress oscar. I’ll be surprised if anyone manages to overtake her.

Bottom Line – Moore is amazing in this role and I’ll be very surprised if she doesn’t win an Oscar for it. Great supporting cast. Not easy to watch the progression of the disease because it is done do well. Highly recommended!

Rating – Oscar Worthy

  1. Still Alice looks incredible, but also difficult. As you mentioned.

I am still of the camp that believes Rosamund Pike has a great shot of the Oscar glory for Best Actress, but I’d also believe Julianne Moore has just done something incredible here, too. It’s going to be a fun race to watch.

  3. I haven’t seen this yet (it doesn’t come out here for a week or so), but I’m already rooting for Moore to win based on the trailers and (admittedly) her past performances. Although I would also love to see Pike win like Tom mentioned.
