007 December – The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) – MovieRob

007-December Blogathon

Here’s today’s final review of The Spy Who Loved Me (1977).

Thanks again to Luke and James for their reviews earlier today!

swlm2“When one is in Egypt, one should delve deeply into its treasures. ” – James Bond

Number of Times Seen – 2-3 Times  (cable in the 80’s and 90’s and 11 Dec 2014)

Brief Synopsis – Bond must work together with a female Russian agent when both a British and Russian submarine mysteriously disappear.

My Take on it – When it comes to Roger Moore’s Bond films, I can’t really say I like any of them more than the others because basically all 7 of them give us what we have come to expect from the character.

If one were to make a list of what one should see in a great Bond film, it would probably look like this:

  • Sexy Bond Women
  • Excellent gadgets developed by Q-branch
  • A maniacal villain who wants to take over the world or at least reshape it in his own image
  • Exotic world locations and death defying tasks fitting for a season of the Amazing Race 🙂
  • Henchmen that will always be loved by us for their “special” talents
  • Bond’s loveable double entendres and puns
  • Great title song along with the classic 007 theme music

This film has everything on the list and in addition, adds a great battle scene between the villain’s army and the sailors from the missing Submarines.

As a kid, I loved those battle scenes and fondly remember this film.

It isn’t as good as I recalled, but it still is lots of fun

Bottom Line – Another Bond flick that gives us everything we expect including sultry women, amazing gadgets, diabolical villains, quirky henchmen and an epic battle scene to end it all. Recommended!

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. “Sultry women” is right — I still can’t make up my mind who gets it worse; the women who are mistreated by Sean Connery or the women who get mistreated by Roger Moore. Lol!
