For today’s final review of For Your Eyes Only (1981), here’s my view on it.
Thanks to Luke for his review earlier today
Number of Times Seen – 2-3 Times (cable in the 80’s and 90’s and 14 Dec 2014)
Brief Synopsis – After a British ship is destroyed, Bond must race against time to retrieve a secret decoder located within the wreckage on the ocean floor before the Russian agents get a hold of it.
My Take on it – This movie always leaves me with fond memories mainly because of the title song by Sheena Easton and the much used winter sports.
Roger Moore once again came to bat and gave us another thrilling chapter in the Bond series.
The story isn’t overly complicated, but who watches a Bond movie just for the plot anyways 🙂
The breathtaking locales and Moore’s quips as Bond are what we want to see and he totally deliver here with that.
I found the character Bibi to be a bit annoying, but I liked how Bond stepped it up a bit here and decided to use his licence to kill even when not 100% necessary and also didn’t always choose to bed the girl showing us that he does have some standards. 🙂
I liked how much of the action scenes took place either underwater (with sharks) or in the snow, utilizing the numerous Olympic sports still fresh in peoples minds following the Lake Placid Olympics the previous year.
Maybe it’s just me, but the Bond movies with Moore just seem to have been so much fun to make for the actors and everyone else involved.
Bottom Line – Thrilling action scenes (especially with sharks) and the overuse of Olympic sports make this a fun Bond adventure, but the story itself isn’t too complicated. Moore once again delivers as Bond and seems to have a great time doing so. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy
