“I may not do everything great in my life, but I’m good at this. I manage to touch people’s lives with what I do and I want to share this with you. ” – Carl Casper

Brief Synopsis – A once talented chef decides to try and start again on his own after he gets an unfavorable review from a famous online food critic
My Take on it – I have always been a fan of Jon Favreau and his movies. He is a great writer and director and knows how to create characters and stories that we can relate to and want to keep watching.
Favreau is the perfect example of what an actor/writer/director should be and do when making a movie. He researched this kind of role so intensely that he even was willing to put himself through a lot of training in order to appear as an expert chef…and it shows
The characters in this movie seemed very real and it is quite easy to relate to them.
The most realistic part was the father-son relationship between Favreau and Emjay Anthony. Their connection is described perfectly throughout the movie and it works extremely well from a sentimental perspective.
The one thing that made me lose a bit of confidence in this movie was the character played by Sofia Vergara. I love her on Modern Family, but here she seems too out of her element and the film suffers whenever her character appears or is discussed.
BTW, that grilled cheese sandwich seems really really tasty 🙂
Bottom Line – Favreau is a very talented writer and director who knows how to get his audience engaged. Interesting characters and a ‘real’-feeling make this very entertaining. The father-son relationship is very touching and knowing from personal experience, it worked. Recommended!
Rating – Globe Worthy

Swingers is my favourite of his, but I do have a soft spot for this. Yeah the thing with his wife never quite fit, but his enthusiasm for food came across. Be honest. Did you grab a snack before finishing the film? Ha!

A pleasant piece from Favreau to remind us all why we loved him so much in the first place. Good review.

Yeah, a decent little flick but i still felt it was all a bit pointless. I kinda wished I’d spent my time on something else with a bit more bite.

Jon Favreau, as in Happy in Iron Man? I love him! If it is the same guy, I didn’t even know he wrote and directed. Need to see this now!

Chef was easily one of my top 5 favorite movies of 2014. Your review sums it up well, but I would also mention that it really has a great soundtrack.
