“Doc may not be a “Do-Gooder” but he’s done good.” – Sortilege
Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Jan 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A private detective in 1970 tries to find his ex-girlfriend and along the way gets involved in numerous crazy plots.
My Take on it – Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie have always bordered on the strange, but this one IMHO wins the prize.
The story here is extremely convoluted and complex and if you don’t pay full attention, you will definitely get lost along the way.
That bring said, even if you are paying attention, there is no guarantee that it wont still be confusing.
I have read numerous reviews of this where they are sure that the cast had a blast making this and claim to have had such a fun time on this.
I watch movies to enjoy the finished product, not just to be sure the cast had fun making it.
I can appreciate and understand how some could think this is a masterpiece, but I can’t claim to think this movie is anything but the exact opposite.
Bottom Line – Very strange movie that does all it can to try and confuse the audience because the plot is so convoluted. I can understand how some can see brilliance in this but I need a more coherent plot.
Rating – Razzie Worthy

This is a pretty crazy movie. But it’s one that I constantly found myself excited with and enjoying. Good review.

Um…I’m still confused, six days later. I may have to cheat and write a short and sweet review like yours to explain a movie I didn’t get. At least I’m not the only one who didn’t like it! 🙂

I didn’t consider it to be weird, it just made zero sense to me! Ha ha

Ditto. It was weird because it made no sense and I tried really hard to attempt to follow what was going on

I’m surprised Joaquin knew what was going on!

Really enjoyed this. I didn’t even attempt to make sense of the plot, but I thought it was a really nice look at the end of counterculture and the sadness/loss of the characters. The first hour or so was average, but it won me over by the end, especially with wonderful scenes like the Martin Short one, the Golden Fang exchange, the final Bigoot-Doc one, and the flashback with Doc and Shasta set to Neil Young.
