Following the success of my previous blogathon – 007 December (where we managed to jointly write 77 reviews of all 26 James Bond movies, I decided that I wanted to do another blogathon on a general movie theme that can also once again generate a lot of reviews.
After mulling it over for the past month, I decided to choose movies directed by Rob Reiner.
Rob Reiner is a very talented actor and director and since his birthday is 6 March, I decided to choose the 17 movies that he directed as the theme for my next blogathon.
If you look at his filmography as a director, you will notice that he never really stuck with one genre and he is perhaps one of the most diverse director around.
When Reiner was an actor in the 70’s, his most famous TV role was that of Archie Bunker’s son-in-Law Mike Stivic on the show All in the Family.
Bunker always referred to him as Meathead because of his liberal views, so I decided to name this blogathon after his famous nickname.
For this blogathon, I once again want to encourage multiple reviews of the same movies and I plan to run it the same way as the previous one; I plan to post multiple reviews on the same day of every movie.
There is no limit to the number of reviews anyone can do. (I plan to review all 17)
It’s quite simple to participate. All you have to do is put a comment here as to which movie(s) you want to review or just shoot me an email with the info to meathead@movierob.net
Anyone who loves movies is welcome to join in!
I’d like to set a deadline for submitting reviews by 26th Feb in order to have a bit of time to organize and arrange things, but if someone has a personal request for a slight extension, send me an email and we will see what can be done.
Below is the list of Reiner’s 17 theatrical movies as Director, you can see just by browsing how diverse the genres are, so I’m sure there is something for everyone here. That means you Eric, Mutant, Josh and Emma.
No excuses this time around you guys!! 🙂
- This Is Spinal Tap (1984) James, Niall
- The Sure Thing (1985) Reut
- Stand by Me (1986) Justine, Cara
- The Princess Bride (1987) Kim, Kellee
- When Harry Met Sally… (1989) Vicki
- Misery (1990) Niall, Emma
- A Few Good Men (1992) Eric, Darren
- North (1994)
- The American President (1995) Aurora
- Ghosts of Mississippi (1996) Reut
- The Story of Us (1999)
- Alex & Emma (2003) Ryan
- Rumor Has It… (2005) Ryan
- The Bucket List (2007)
- Flipped (2010) Ryan
- The Magic of Belle Isle (2012) Kim
- And So It Goes (2014)
In addition, if anyone wants to do a post about Reiner himself, his life, his movies or just a rant (good or bad) about him, that would be great also
Can’t wait to hear what you all have in mind for this!
Pls send your reviews to meathead@movierob.net before 26th February
Can’t wait! I have an idea already of what one I wanna do 🙂

I just watched A Few Good Men last Monday so pencil me in for that for sure. Um, I do own The American President so if no one grabs that one I could review it.

Done. Like I said, I’d like multiple reviews of each movie, so whatever is good for you

ROB!!! May I have your permission to switch my pick? Since there are a lot of people who want to review A Few Good Men, I’ll change my selection up and pick the movies no one has selected. I just watched the trailer for Rumour Has It and couldn’t stop laughing, so count me in for that one for sure. I watched the trailers for Alex & Emma and Flipped, so if no one else wants to review those, pencil me in and i’ll watch them in the next two weeks. Let me know what you think.

Hi Rob! I’m wondering if I can change my choice for the event to THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT from my previous choice MISERY. I adore the latter, but my mood and circumstances these days calls for lighter fare. I hope you don’t mind the change. Plus I see no one’s chosen AMERICAN PRESIDENT yet so at least it’ll get some attention. Let me know. 🙂

Hi Rob – I missed the part of your announcement that mentions our reviews should have been sent to you by February 26th!! So sorry. I’m just writing mine today. Is it too late? I was going to publish it for Reiner’s birthday thinking the blogathon was any time throughout March. Let me know if it’s too late. I’ll publish it anyway since I’ve got most of it done, but if it’s too late for your event I understand.
