White Bird in A Blizzard (2014)

white bird“Guy had so much body fat he’s like a human candle.” – Detective Scieziesciez

Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Jan 2015)

Brief Synopsis – After her mother mysteriously disappears, a teenage girl tries to understand why despite the difficulties she has with her father.

My Take on it – It seems that once again a bestselling novel has been adapted to the screen inadequately due to the fact that the novel is told from a first person perspective with lots of exposition explained by the narrator.

I have never read the book, so this is all an educated guess that I can assume is right since too much felt missing and they tried to rush the story.

This movie felt lost in the transitions back and forth between being a missing persons mystery and a coming of age story.

I felt that this movie had so much more potential than it exibited.

Shailene Woodley is quickly becoming a great leading actress and I see her name on an Oscar some time in the future. The is a complex character to play and she did it well.

Bottom Line – An ok story that doesnt know whether it’s a coming of age tale or a missing person mystery. I would bet that the book is much better because it can explain so much more. Woodley is once again amazing.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
