Before I Go to Sleep (2014)

Before I Go To Sleep - UK Quad Final“My name is Christine Lucas. Tonight, as I sleep, my mind will erase everything that I know today… He says he’s protecting you but don’t trust anyone.” – Christine

Number of Times Seen – 1 (8 Feb 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A woman wakes up one day to find out that she has a form of amnesia that wipes clean her short term memory every morning. She now must relearn the truth about he life every day with the help of her husband who has stood by her for so many years.

My Take on it – This movie is a thriller that uses a much used concept in movies about short term memory (Memento (2000), Clean Slate (1995) and even to an extent Groundhog Day (1993)) and it works very well.

The fact that we only know what the main character knows helps raise the thrill level and when we constantly get hit with more and more unexpected surprises snd twists, the movie keeps the viewer very involved.

Both Nicole Kidman (as the amnesiac) and Colin Firth (as her husband dealing with her illness) do great jobs here.

This is based on a book that sounds like it might be even better than the movie. Guess I’ll add that to my future reading list.

Bottom Line – Great performances by Kidman and Firth. Love some of the twists here that keep you guessing throughout. Sounds like the book must be even better. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This was the last feature film to use Fuji 35mm film stock. Production of this film stock ceased at this time. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy
