Genre Guesstimation – That Was Then… This is Now (1985)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s Genre was chosen by Justine of Justine’s Movie Blog and she chose Coming of Age Films as the Genre for February.  If you want to still submit a movie, the deadline is 22 Feb. Just send it to me at COA@movierob.net

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Coming of Age movies…

Number of Times Seen – 2  (Video in 1993 and10 Feb 2015)

Brief Synopsis – Two friends who grew up as brothers take different paths when they must fend for themselves once their mother/foster mother is hospitalized.

My Take on it – Another day and another destroyed childhood memory.

This is my third and final review of an S.E. Hinton movie adaptation for this series.

As a kid, I recall loving her books and the movies based on them, but watching these three have completely disappointed me and made me question my childhood memories.

This movie was so uninteresting to watch. I didn’t care for any of the characters or what would happen to them and just wished that the movie would end.

Every, (I mean every) character completely overacted here and you just can’t understand how accomplished actors like Emilio Estevez, Craig Schaeffer and Morgan Freeman didn’t know better and at least try to help.

I also find it funny how Freeman gets top billing on the poster eventhough he has a relatively small role. Guess future fame pays off. 😉

Bottom Line – Complete waste of time. All of the actors completely overact here and even Estevez, Schaeffer and Freeman couldn’t help. Very boring plot

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is the only film adaption of an S.E. Hinton novel that does not star Matt Dillon. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not in the least. I once again question why I have such good memories of S.E. Hinton’s movie adaptations.

Rating – Razzie Worthy
