My 2015 Oscar Scorecard

20150223_075814

Whether you all want to believe me or not, after doing lots and lots of research in the last few weeks, I actually got 21 out of 24 Oscar picks correct this year. (my actually scorecard is above)*

I am quite pleased that Birdman (2014) won because I truly believe that it is a better film than Boyhood (2014)…but  I also think that Selma (2014) and American Sniper (2014) were even better.

The only 3 I missed were best actor (thought Keaton would get it), and both screenplay awards 😦

It was also great seeing some love for Big Hero 6 (2014).

I liked this years show better than last year because this has been a great Oscar race and not everything was easily predictable.

Let’s hope next years race is just as fun and exciting!!!!

* the only last minute change I made was 4 hours before the show when I switched my predicted winner for animation from How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) to Big Hero 6 (2014)

  1. Nice work. I did very badly. I still dont get the Birdman love. I think it will be another American Beauty. We will look back in 10 years and wonder what they were thinking. It was 7th out of 8 for the nominees to me.

          • I guess i just believe different movies have to be approached with different eyes. For example I dont watch Schindlers List the same way I watch Star Wars. To me Boyhood was a lot like the documentary Hoop Dreams which follows 2 boys chasijg basketball dreams for 7 years. If I approach Hoop Dreams looking for Star Wars than I miss out on a portrait of 2 lives captured. I miss out on what I can learn from their lives to make my life better. It’s kind of like I have a different movie glasses watching Aladdin and Fantasia. They are both brilliant and have a lot to offer but in different ways.

            Anyway…sigh

            • I agree. I actually finslly saw hoop dreams this summer and didnt like it very much. Yes. These awards try to compare different movies completely so instead of trying to compare an apple to an orange, I think the trick is to try and decide which is the better or more tastier fruit

              • Really? That makes me sad. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like Hoop Dreams. It’s astonishing portrait of life and how your dreams can motivate you to be better but also completely let you down. Managing your dreams with the cold reality is one of the toughest things about growing up and no movie shows that better than Hoop Dreams. It’s certainly better remembered than whatever nonsense was nominated for best documentary that year.

Oh well, to each their own. I agree it’s apples and oranges. For me Boyhood, Selma, American Sniper and maybe Whiplash are the only BP nominees I’d have in my top 15 for the year. Sigh

  2. Nice! You beat me, I got 16 out of 24 correct. Got best picture and director wrong! How disappointing. Although I’m kind of glad Birdman beat Boyhood for best picture, I still think Linklater should’ve taken the Oscar for directing.

  3. I watched Birdman yesterday morning and didn’t see what all of the excitement was over it. I liked Ed Norton but that was about it. The music irritated the living hell out of me.
