For today’s final review of The Princess Bride (1987), here once again are my thoughts!
“Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something. ” – Man in Black
Number of Times Seen – Too many to count (Theater in 1987, cable, video, DVD, 3 Jun 2001, 16 Nov 2013 and 2 Mar 2015)

Brief Synopsis – After the Prince’s bride to be is kidnapped by three strangers, a mysterious man in black with unknown intentions follows her captors.
My Take on it – This is a movie that truly has something for everyone.
It’s a love story based in a magical far away land that has swordfights, giants, deadly creatures, assassination plots, wizards, kidnappings, revenge, miracles, lots of humorous characters, lies, deceit, true love and of course, a bit of kissing.
I recall seeing this in the theater and being drawn in by the majesty and simpleness of the story, while still being so entertaining
Since Rob Reiner’s movies cross so many genres its hard to say which of his movies is my favorite but this is among the top three IMHO and I can watch it over and over without a problem.
The characters and storyline are so rich in depth that the people we meet and the places we visit are ones that feel so familiar to us and we want to revisit them as often as we can.
The dialogue is superb and there are so many quotable lines in this movie that I could go on for hours quoting them one by one (dont worry, I’ll spare you the agony) 😉
The cast is expertly chosen and it’s hard to see anyone else in most of the roles.
The musical score is so gentle and catchy at the same time that it’s quite easy for it to get stuck in your head.
The main love song for this movie is called Storybook Love and is amazingly pleasant to listen to.
A good friend of mine surprised his own bride at their wedding ten years ago by having the musicians play this song as she walked down the aisle. Everyone was in tears.
Listen to the song below:
I’m sure most of you noticed that the banner above resembles another great movie in its font and visuals, but when I saw this I just had to use it because it shows how similar both movies really are.
Bottom Line – Great fantasy based story that has so many themes in it, it truly can be enjoyed by anyone. Excellent characters and dialogue that are so memorable and quotable. Great musical score with an amazing title song. Highly recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – As you wish” is said 7 times (4 by Westley, 3 by the grandfather). Inconceivable is said 5 times. And the famous line “My name is Indigo Montoya…” is said 6 times. (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (no change from original review)
