And the Oscar Goes To (2014)

oscar“For the winners there will be a giant victory celebration at the Grand Ballroom in the Hilton hotel, the rest of us will gather in a monoxide room at the Price Waterhouse garage” – Bob Hope

Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Mar 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A documentary chronicling the history of the Academy Awards from its inception until today.

My Take on it – For as long as I can recall, I have always loved the watch the Oscars.  Even as a kid, I would beg my parents to let me stay up to watch the show which on the East Coast would go until 11:30 or midnight or even later.  I distinctly recall that in March ’88, when I was 14, my parents punished me for something or another that I did and my punishment was that I couldn’t watch the Oscars.

Since moving to Israel in 1992, I have watched the show live on TV every year which isn’t an easy feat being that it begins at 3:30am here. 🙂 (I only missed one time in 2004 when my cable went out and a friend from the states called me during every commercial break to update me)

I even have on video all of the shows from 1994 – 2003 and would rewatch the shows in order starting a week or so before the event in order to get myself in the spirit.

All that being said, I am one of many who loves to watch the show no matter how crazy or how late it ends up ending.

When I heard about this movie, I was so psyched because of my love for everything Oscar.

This movie does an excellent job capturing the glamor, pageantry and behind the scenes action of the 87 years of Oscar and I loved every minute of it.

The only problem is that the subject matter is so rich with information, that a movie 90 minutes long doesn’t even come close to scratching the surface of information available.

I wish that they eventually make an even more comprehensive movie about this subject, even a mini-series would do.

BTW, if anyone knows how to find full Oscar telecasts online (even for money), let me know because I’d love to expand my collection.

Bottom Line – Great movie that shows why everyone lives the pageantry and glamor of the Oscars. Unfortunately, as great as this movie is, it only manages to scratch the surface and a much more comprehensive film is needed. Oscar Worthy!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Has interviews with more than 30 Oscar winners, nominees and behind the scenes people.

Rating – Oscar Worthy
