Focus (2015)

focus“It’s about distraction. It’s about focus. The brain is slow and it can’t multitask. Tap him here, take from there. ” – Nicky

Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Mar 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A con man works on his biggest con yet, but will his own vices make him lose everything he has been working so hard to accomplish.

My Take on it – Like with all movies featuring confidence men, the trick is to convince not just the characters but also the audience of the con.

This movie doesn’t do that well enough and it also doesn’t feel sufficiently focused to keep things interesting for the entire running time.

Will Smith is ok here but this is clearly not one of his better films.

There were a few nice surprises along the way, but overall is was a pretty bland ‘con’ movie

Bottom Line – Interesting premise but I dont think Smith was able to succesfully con us into believing him and his character. Has a few nice surprises, but ultimately will not come anywhere close to being an amazing ‘con’ movie. Movie wasnt focused enough 😉

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Comedian Artie Lange was offered a role in the film via text message while hosting his late-night sports talk show. The following night, he turned down the role, trashing Will Smith and the film’s screenplay at length in the process, because the character he was asked to play was “a five hundred pound Persian” named “Fatass Farhad.” A similar incident happened with comedian Omid Djalili who was also not prepared to put on the weight required for the character. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy
