“Oh, we’re in deep schist.” – Sean
Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Mar 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A scientist and his nephew go on an expedition to try and discover the path to the Center of the Earth as described by Jules Verne in his book.
My Take on it – This is a cross between an Indiana Jones movie and National Treasure.
I have always enjoyed these kind of movies because they try to take concepts that we know and make a modern adventure out of it.
I know that as a kid I read truncated versions of most of Jules Verne’s novels so I had an idea of the storyline but cant claim to be an expert at all.
This actually helped me to enjoy this more because the main concepts were familiar so I could focus on the specific ones.
The modern adaptation worked for me and it added to the thrills.
The special effects weren’t done so well and seemed ‘cheap’, but the thrilling aspects made up for it especially the ‘magnetic rock’ sequence.
Bottom Line – Interesting and fun adventure story that does a nice job updating the story to modern times and technology. Special effects are mediocre, but the thrill of the adventure make up for it. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When Trevor lights up the flare and the wall sets on fire because of the magnesium he’s supposed to burn himself, the scene in the movie was the second take of the day and in that take Brendan Fraser did burn himself for real. He was holding the road flare too perpendicular and too close in relation of the wall, the flames bounced on the wall and blew back to his bare hand. The screams he makes were a mix of real pain and acting, the production was shut down for a few days. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
