Meathead March – Flipped (2010) – MovieRob

For today’s second and final review of Flipped (2010), here are my thoughts on it

flipped“Some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss; but every once in a while, you find someone who’s iridescent, and once you do, nothing will ever compare. ” – Chet Duncan

Number of Times Seen – 2 (19 Dec 2010 and 23 Mar 2015)

Brief Synopsis – An unconventionsl love story that tells the tale of two kids and how thry feel about each other. Too bad they don’t feel the same for each other at the same time.

My Take on it – Certain movies hit you in a soft spot the very first time you see them and that feeling usually stays upon each subsequent revisit.

I recall seeing this movie a bit over four years ago and thinking that it won me over so well and so easily that it surely was one of my top ten movies of that year.

It still is….

Everything works so smoothly; the late 1950’s-early 1960’s feeling, the characters and dialogue and the best idea of them all; the narration.

This movie tells the story using two narrators who tell us mostly what will happen despite their different perspectives on everything in their lives.

I loved the way that the second perspective of a given scene helped open our eyes more and more to who the characters really are, their true feelings and their real motivation for acting as they did.

The main cast are mostly unknowns (besifes the parents) which help us focus more on the stoy than the gossip.

The movie has many life lessons to be garnered from just a 90 minutes running time, but the main part about
not choosing a book by its cover rings true throughout and as we learn more about the characters, the more we learn to sympathize with them.

Bottom Line – Great story about not judging a book by its cover. Loved how we got to see multiple perspectives on the same situations which gave us much more ibsight into the character’s lives, true intensions and feelings. Highly recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In the novel, the story is set in the early 2000s. The movie shows it set in the early 1960s. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy
