Number of Times Seen – 2 (26 Dec 2007 and 23 Mar 2015)
Brief Synopsis – After a young girl witnesses a crime, her imperfect sworn testimony leads to life long troubles for everyone involved.
My Take on it – This isn’t an easy movie to watch because the pace is so slow, but if you endure that, it ultimately pays off.
This movie tries to answer the question of how does one makes amends for an error that cannot be rectified.
It’s an interesting idea and the answer ptesented is satisfying if still not perfect.
The best scene is the Dunkirk one and it’s the kind of scene which one regrets not seeing on the big screen because of its impact.
Really enjoyed how this movie showed a few of the integral scenes from multiple perspectives so we can understand both the real truth and the perceived truth.
Bottom Line – Interesting story about regrets and mistakes and trying to find a way to make amends for them. Slow pace doesn’t hinder the effect of the movie but you need to sit it through the slow oarts. The Dunkirk scene is amazing to watch. I regret missing seeing that scene in the theater. Enjoyed the way some scenes were reshown from different perspectives. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Shooting the five minute Dunkirk beach scene was arguably the toughest portion of shooting. The shooting schedule dictated that the scene must be completed in two days, because the crew has limited time with the 1,000 extras. However the location scouts report indicated the lighting quality at the beach was not good enough until the afternoon of the second day. This forced director Joe Wright to change his shooting strategy into shooting with one camera. The scene was rehearsed on the first day and on the morning of the second day. The scene required five takes and the third take was used in the film. On shooting, Steadicam operator Peter Robertson shot the scene by riding on a small tracking vehicle, walking off to a bandstand after rounding a boat, moved to a ramp, stepped onto a rickshaw, finally dismounting and moving past the pier into a bar. Rating – Globe Worthy
