Number of movies seen from this year – 124
Number of movies reviewed – 111 (including 13 Encore Reviews)
Being that I was only 12 in 1986, only 5 of these movies were seen in the theater, the other 5 (#8, #5, #4, #2 and #1) were seen on cable or video in the few years afterwards.
I had a lot of trouble deciding between #1 and #2, so I truly believe that it’s close to a virtual tie between the two but my #1 is more powerful overall so it wins by a (very small) nose.
You will notice that only 1 Oscar Best Picture nominee appears on this list and that’s because I really found the other 3 that I’ve seen to not be as good as my other 9 choices. The final BP nominee “A Room With a View” is still on my watchlist, so as of now, I can’t say whether it deserves to be on this list or not.

Great list! Seeing as you chose 3 movies out of possibly the 10 movies in change that I saw from 1986 😉 Well, to be fair, I was born that year….so umm, I’m still working on it 😉 Love me some Goonies and Aliens. Plus, Maximum Overdrive is one of my guilty pleasures..haha!

Wasn’t the biggest fan of MO. Yep. Goonies and Aliens are both excellent!

Here I have seen very few on the list, so I haven’t much to say. I like Stand by Me quite a bit. Aliens, too.
I’ll focus my comments on A Room With a View; I recognize the skill it took to make it. But the film is far too dry, the characters far to “meh” and the pace too slow for my blood. I wouldn’t have it on this list.

Good to know that I haven’t missed out on a lot by having not seen it yet. It wasn’t high on my watchlist regardless and u just helped drop it down a notch or two.
Uve never seen Platoon????

Platoon is a great choice. Some good films included in there too. Your lists of movies from each year is amazing though!
