“When I die, I want my epitaph to read “Here’s lies Abe Polin, King of the Extras. 19th man to yell, ‘I’m Spartacus.'” ” – Abe
Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Apr 2015)
Brief Synopsis – After suffering a mild heart attack, a young surgeon decides to try and reconnect with his estranged father
My Take on it – This movie works because of the chemistry between Billy Crystal and Alan King.
I’m not use to seeing Crystal in a serious role and was expecting him to dish out a few wise cracks along the way that never came, but despite this he does a great job.
The idea to explore father son relationships isn’t new, but it was still done in a way that made me care about both of them and wanted to see them change for the better over the course of the movie
Bottom Line – Interesting movie about father-son dynamics. Not use to seeing Crystal in the straight role. Great chemistry between Crystal and King. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Abe introduces Abbie to Sean Connery, who happens to walk by dressed as a U.S. Army officer. Connery was actually in costume for the filming of The Presidio (1988), and did the cameo appearance in between takes. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy
