Number of Times Seen – 2 (3 Mar 2008 and 16 Apr 2015)
Brief Synopsis –A dispute over ownership of a house leads to troubles for two very different families and ends up spiraling into a situation that no one thought possible.
My Take on it – When I first saw this movie 7 years ago, I had no clue what I was about to see or how powerful a film it could be.
It’s a story that starts off innocently enough and because of misunderstanding spirals into very dark areas.
The characters are all great because not only do they all believe they are acting nobly, but they are also all flawed.
Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly are both excellent in their roles and we believe that each of them has the best intentions for the situation rapidly unfolding beneath their very feet.
The pacing and buildup within the movie is done exceptionally well and I love how the storyline switches back and forth between an intense human drama and a taut thriller.
The movie centers around the theme of honor and being true to your own beliefs which can sometimes contradict one another.
Bottom Line – Great movie about family honor shown by two very culturally diverse families. Kingsley and Connelly are both amazing here. Love the subtle buildup that keeps switching between a drama and thriller. Highly recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Author Andre Dubus III received more than 100 offers from film studios who wanted to make his book into a feature. (From IMDB)
