Brief Synopsis – Captain America needs to fight corruption from within S.H.I.E.L.D. while trying to acclimate to the modern world.
My Take on it – I have always been a huge fan of Captain America and for what he stands for.
This isn’t your typical superhero movie because it isn’t just an action movie, but rather it also is a great conspiracy thriller that helps keep us guessing for most of the movie.
The action scenes are also done expertly.
The Winter Soldier is a great adversary but this movie is so multi-layered that we get to understand so much about what really is going on behind-the-scenes.
What’s amazing is that this movie utilizes very little special effects and most of the action sequences are done with stuntmen as opposed to computers. Knowing this, makes it seems even more amazing that in this day and age, movies like this are still being done this way and are able to hold their own against those fully laden with effects.
Behind it all, we have a story about a man trying to get familiar enough with a new world that he has been thrust into and he quickly realizes that it isn’t much different than the one he came from.
It ties in well with the other Marvel films and still has its very own unique identity.
Captain America still remains my favorite Marvel hero and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for him in the next movie and in the Marvel franchise as a whole.
Bottom Line – Great action-thriller that builds on the previous movie perfectly but has its own ideal identity. Amazing fight/chase scenes that help keep us on the edge of our seats. Highly recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Anthony Mackie’s appearance in this film fulfills his dream of playing a Marvel comic book character. He wrote a series of e-mail pleas to Marvel wanting to play any comic character that would appear on film. Though the studio repeatedly replied to him that they will respond in due time, Mackie’s emails caught the attention of Kevin Feige who subsequently offered him the role of Falcon (From IMDB)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (no change from original review) 9/10
