[to Galen] It’s a shield. I made it. Might keep the fire off of you, might not. You know, you’re an idiot. You’re going to die tonight. You’ll be ripped, limb from limb. This is the last time I’ll ever speak to you! – Valerian
Number of Times Seen – Between 3-5 times (cable in the 80’s and 19 Apr 2015)
Brief Synopsis – An apprentice sorcerer is sent on a quest to kill a menacing dragon
My Take on it – I have always been a fan of the fantasy genre and as a kid loved to play Dungeons and Dragons and read stories within that genre.
I recall seeing this movie a few times way back when and I recalled it being good.
Unfortunately, my memory has fooled me again.
This movie was terrible.
The storyline and dialogue are completely silly and the special effects seem so archaic (especially for 1981), it’s laughable.
My trivia below says it all, but I can definitely understand how that can come to be.
There was nothing worthwhile to watch in this movie.
Bottom Line – Complete waste of time. I can completely understand why the trivia below can be factual. Lees than mediocre special effects help create an atmosphere for a movie that has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Peter MacNicol is said to be embarrassed by this film and does not list it on his CV. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy

This sounds like the kind of cheesy 80s sci fi/fantasy film I could really enjoy because of its terribleness! Sounds awful, good one Rob! 🙂

I only saw this film in the last year or two, hoping for some awesome 80’s cheese, and I agree that it is utterly abysmal. Painful to endure. But I absolutely loved the effects of the dragon sequence so I’ve begrudgingly kept the DVD.

I actually enjoyed it. Not great, but fun for what it was trying to be.
I’m wondering what you think of the stuff with the priest getting killed, and the other guy taking up his mantle and taking credit for the heroes at the end. It seems to have an anti-religious message to it, which is interesting since this is from the family-friendly Disney company.
