Number of movies seen from this year – 67
Number of movies reviewed – 67 (Including 9 Encore Reviews)
As you can see, I have seen ‘relatively’ few movies from 1980.
Being that I was only 6 that year, the large majority of these movies were not seen in the theater and were mostly seen on cable years later.
As far a my memory tells me, I only had the pleasure of seeing #6 in the theater.
#7 is a guilty pleasure of mine and I’m quite most if you have never seen it or perhaps even heard of it.
#1 for me was very easy to choose because it is very high on my personal all-time favorites.
Only two Oscar Best Picture Nominees make my list and I have always felt that the remaining two that I’ve seen (The Elephant Man and The Coal Miner’s Daughter) are so inferior to the two that cracked my top ten. I’ve never seen Tess, so I don’t have an opinion on that yet.
10. Gideon’s Trumpet
6. Superman II
5. Airplane
4. Caddyshack
3. Shogun
1. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Was 1980 that year you were deep undercover, snapping necks in various warzones around the world?

Some good choices with an obvious #1, though you’re right, I’ve never even heard of 7. I really liked Coal Miner’s Daughter, 9 to 5, and Somewhere in Time, but I can understand why you may not. There were some really good movies this year!

Ha, I loved Midnight Madness when I was a kid! With a side of (the book) The Westing Game. Would be weird to see it now…Netflix doesn’t have it for a rewatch–I checked a little while ago. *laugh*

Insofar as it is one of my five favorite films ever, Ordinary People would clearly be number 1 for me. I’m glad to see you rank it ahead of Raging Bull, though.
And while I wouldn’t have it first, Empire is clearly is good.

Yep OP is excellent but I think #2 is quite a respectable spot.

I’ve only seen 4 of these Top Ten movies. Hmm… I think I need to catch up on some early 80s flicks!
