The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.
This month’s Genre was chosen by James of Back to the Viewer and he chose Dystopian Films as the Genre for April.
Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Dystopian movies…
“People had more than they needed. We had no idea what was precious and what wasn’t. We threw away things people kill each other for now.” – Eli
Number of Times Seen – 1 (21 Apr 2015)
Brief Synopsis – A man on a personal mission in a deserted world carries and safeguards an ancient text that perhaps has the answer to fixing the world
My Take on it – I am a believer that Denzel Washington is an actor who most of the time plays a very similar character without giving us much of an acting range.
This movie unfortunately belongs on the list.
I understood the main character’s drive to reach his destination in order to fulfill his goal, but the movie’s plot feels so thin that I didn’t care for him or any of the characters.
The whole thing moves too slowly and the pace itself made it feel like I was watching an even longer movie (which didn’t help).
There are much better made movies in this genre.
Bottom Line – Very slow moving and dull movie that adds in a few fight scenes in order to try and blind us to the fact that it doesn’t really have much of a plot. Denzel doesn’t even shine here in the least bit.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The screenplay for this film was featured in the 2007 Blacklist; a list of the “most liked” unmade scripts of the year. (From IMDB)
Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close. Has a few good fighting sequences, but overall this movie was pretty dull.
Rating – Razzie Worthy

Gotta agree with ya Rob. This movie just doesn’t cut the mustard. Denzel’s been so much better even in other mediocre films.
