Genre Guesstimation – Aeon Flux (2005)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s Genre was chosen by James of Back to the Viewer and he chose Dystopian Films as the Genre for April.

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Dystopian movies…

aeon flux“We’re meant to die. Its what makes everything about us matter.” – Aeon Flux

Number of Times Seen – 1 (26 Apr 2015)

Brief Synopsis – In a society 400 years in the future, a female assassin is sent on a mission to stop the head of state from continuing his oppression of the people.

My Take on it – This is yet another movie that I heard of years ago, but never really got around to seeing.

I didn’t know anything about this movie beforehand and actually expected it to be an animated movie and not live action.

The idea and basis for the story is quite interesting and it raises some very intriguing and innovative ideas for the future.

Charlize Theron is great here and she succesfully manages to lead the way and hold this movie together by keeping us interested.

I liked the way that the futuristic world was presented to us and it made the movie enjoyable because it fits well into the storyline.

Bottom Line – Very interesting idea thst is nicely executed. Definitely a great performance by Theron and she holds this together extremely well. Raises very innovative ideas and is enjoyable to watch the futuristic world as it is presented to us. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Production was delayed for over a month while Charlize Theron recuperated from a neck injury she sustained while slipping during stunt training. After the injury she still insisted on doing her own stunts, although she does have a stunt doubles clause in her contracts. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – clise. Its very enjoysbke to watch but I can’t say that this is now one of my favorites.

Rating – Globe Worthy

  1. I still remember the animated series. The film’s greatest flaw as an adaptation is that compared to the series, it actually makes sense! And no, that’s not a bad thing. The Aeon Flux series was nonsensical at best, and killed her off in every episode hahaha
