9/11: 10 Years Later (2011)

911“They say time heals all wounds. I don’t think that is true in this tragedy” – Captain Dennis Tardio

Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 May 2015)

Brief Synopsis – A movie that revisits the firemen depicted in the movie 9/11 (2002) ten years after the events of that fateful day

My Take on it – Anyone who read my review a few weeks back on the original documentary, knows how much respect and awe I have for the rescue workers and the film makers for giving us such an important piece of film that shows what really transpired inside the Towers on that day.

I originally thought that this movie was a completely different and new movie chronicling the events of the previous ten years, but in reality, it is a reissuing of the same (albeit) amazing footage again slightly truncated in order to add new ‘updated’ interviews during the last 25 minutes or so.

That doesn’t diminish the impact of this movie, but I guess because the original is so fresh in my mind, I just felt I was rewatching the same movie again.

I think that if I rewatch this in a few years without watching the original in the same time frame, I will actually get an even better experience than when watching the original on its own because it would give me a more distanced perspective of the events of that harrowing day, but also provide more closure when watching the firemen and film makers look back on that day.

Regardless of whether you watch this by itself or as a companion piece to the original documentary, this is an amazing look at the day that changed the world for us all and we are “treated” to some of the most amazing “live” film ever filmed by “accident”.

Bottom Line – Great movie that once again captures the humanity and patriotism of the brave men who helped save countless lives in the burning Twin Towers. Unfortunately, only a small portion of this amazing movie is the update on the men from the first documentary but still is an amazing portrait of heroism and persevenrance on the day of the deadliest terrorist attack on US soil. Highly recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – contains the only known footage of the first plane striking the World Trade Center and the only footage from inside Ground Zero during the attacks, will also include footage from events marking the 10th anniversary, as well as new interviews with many of the firefighters who were featured in the original program (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy
