Number of movies seen from this year – 131
Number of movies reviewed – 129 (including 19 Encore Reviews)
This year was a very influential year for me in my moviewatching. I was 11 and some of the movies on this list are high among my all-time favorites.
My #1 , #2 and #3 are all movies that I saw in the theater and had a profound impact on me because they all dealt with teenagers and their perspectives on the world.
This year’s list also features my favorite Bond film (yea, guilty pleasure) (#6).
Only 2 of the 5 Best Picture nominees made my list (#7 and #10) (barely for one of them)
I’m not the biggest fan of The Color Purple and Kiss of the Spider Women. Prizzi’s Honor just barely missed my cutoff here (probably would been #11 or #12)
Rounding off the list are two comedies (#8 and #9), a Western with an All-Star cast (#5) and a miniseries depicting the life and actions of a true hero (#4)
Update 1 Sep 2016 – For the first time, I have actually dropped a film from my Temporal Top Ten – upon rewatching Wallenberg, I decided that it was good, but not good enough to be listed here. I have subsequently moved all of the entries from 5-10 up a spot and added Ladyhawke in the #10 spot
Update 4 Sep 2017 – Shoah made my #4 spot pushing all others down one slot
Update 1 Aug 2021 – 16 Days of Glory made my #4 spot pushing all others down one slot
Honorable Mention – Ladyhawke
Honorable Mention – Out of Africa

I really love most of these films, though I’ve never heard of 4 or 7 and I still haven’t seen Goonies yet. Murphy’s Romance would have made my cut, but these are some great choices.
For the record, A View to a Kill is my favorite Bond too, probably because it was the first one I saw. That blimp scene is great!

Thanks Eddie. What is it with the fact that so few people have seen The Goonies?

I’m not sure, but maybe it should be remade for a new generation.
