Number of movies seen from this year – 159
Number of movies reviewed – 122 (Including 18 Encore Reviews)
This was a very difficult year to compile because I easily had 16 films that were worthy of making the top ten and I had trouble deciding.
My 6 runners-up are The Big Lebowski, A Bug’s Life, Lethal Weapon 4, The Truman Show, When Trumpets Fade and You’ve Got Mail
On the other hand, choosing my #1 and #2 were easy choices. Both have had a profound impact on my life having been an infantry soldier and always being fascinated by the journey to the stars.
#3 is IMHO the best non-Disney or Pixar animated movie ever made.
You’ll notice that only two of the 5 Oscar nominated best pictures appear on this list at #1 & #7 which gives one representative from each of the two genres nominated that year (WWII and ye olde British period pieces) I wasn’t the biggest fan of Elizabeth or The Thin Red Line, so both are very low on my yearly list. Life is Beautiful is registered for 1997 in IMDB; so keep an eye out for it on that list.
Truly one of the greatest movie years!

I’m a little disappointed there’s no Truman Show. (One of my favorite movies.)

I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen most of these, though it’s hard to believe they can top You’ve Got Mail and Truman Show, two of my favorites. My dad says he hates Pleasantville, but I’ll have to give some of these a watch.

I still cant believe u have never felt the need to watch Saving Private Ryan despite the violence aspect. This was such a tough year to create this list for because there are some amazing movies this year. Im gonna have to rewatch Truman Show to get a fresher perspective.

This is a very good list from a very good year for movies.
I would probably have Saving Private Ryan a bit lower and American History X would be my favorite from the year. But those are small quibbles! Nice work.

Saving Private Ryan is a clear and obvious choice. I need to see Prince of Egypt if your claim is to be believed though.
