The Impossible (2012)

the-impossible“On December 26th, 2004,the deadliest tsunami on record hit the South East Coast of Asia. The lives of countless families all over the world changed forever. This is the true story of one of those families. ” – Title Card

Number of Times Seen – 2 (7 Jan 2013 and 14 May 2015)

Brief Synopsis – While vacationing in Thailand in 2004 a mother and her son gets separated from the rest of their family during the devastating tsunami

My Take on it – This is truly a movie that is worth seeing in the theater or at least on a large screen tv (like I did) because the vast scale and scope of the shots filmed are meant to be enjoyed that way.

I really felt that I was swept away in a tsunami tidal wave while watching this because we are shown it all from the perspective of someone experiencing this tragedy as it happened. Some of those scenes really are scary to watch knowing how close to truth they must be.

It isnt easy to believe that this is all true because some of the scenes seem so surreal, but after reading about it, I know that much of the story is true and accurate to fact.

Naomi Watts gives an amazing performance here and she truly deserved her nomination as best actress for this role.

Bottom Line – Excellent depiction of what it would probably feel like to be in a tsunami and its aftermath. The viewer really gets a perspective of the situation that feels so real it’s scary at times. Truly is impossible to believe some of this story but the facts prove its near accuracy. Watts is great here and deserved her Oscar nomination for this movie. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The real color of the Ball was Yellow not Red, as shown in the film. Maria Belón said it was the “biggest lie” in the movie. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy
